Preview to Sundays game (20th Dec 2009)
In their last 3 games (since losing 4-0 to us) Comets have lost 2 and won 1. If we win, there is a remote possibility that Archie will be facing a tie against his old club Herons, who finished 2nd in their group. Fingers crossed.
I doubt very much that the game will be going ahead due to the blanket of white stuff that has landed on Hertfordshire!

WHYL Challenge Cup, 2nd round: Evergreen Juniors 3-2 Bovingdon Red (13th Dec 2009)
Today’s game was a Challenge Cup 2nd round match against Bovingdon Red. The Challenge cup is a competition that includes teams from all 6 West Herts Youth leagues. We were drawn against a Bovingdon Red team that is currently sat mid-table in the top division. The boys knew that this was going to be a tough game.
Just before kick-off, Archie came up to me with a face like thunder saying that they had to wear “stupid” bibs because both teams’ strips clashed! Mark (one of the coaches) wasn’t looking too happy and clearly had a revolt on his hands until the referee suggested Evergreen wear their shirts inside-out. The boys were happy with this and obliged.
With Louis K missing, Adam started as goalkeeper. Lewis C and Harry C were defence. Lewis P, James and Archie were midfield with Harry F upfront. There were no subs available.
The game didn’t start too well, it was obvious that Bov were very organized and passed the ball about well. They took the lead in the first 5mins with an effort from the corner spot. The ball floated over the keeper and into the goal. After some loud groans from us on the sidelines and some harsh (but very fair) words from Conrad, the boys started to play some really good football and Bov didn’t know how to deal with the pressure that Evergreen were putting them under. We seemed to be closing them down more than usual and we were being very strong in tackles. James and Harry F were unlucky not to find the back of the net with long range efforts but with around 5mins to go we finally got the equalizer that we deserved. The goal came from Lewis P, taking advantage of a loose ball in the area. You could see what it meant to him and the boys. They went in at half time with the scores level at 1-1.
We came out in the second half all guns blazing but nearly slipped up. The Bov team like to either pass the ball backwards to the defence for them to hit a long ball (hoof) up field or use their throw-ins to go back to defence for the hoof. All the Evergreen parents on the sidelines commented on how well the boys were playing, that it was their best performance so far and how laid back Bov looked. With that, we strung a few passes together, Harry F laid a ball off for Archie to run onto. He was strong in holding off the Bov defender and smashed the ball into the back of the net! 2-1 to Evergreen! Bov didn’t know what had hit them, and we carried on getting at them. Lewis P was playing the best I’ve seen him play all season, causing the Bov defence untold problems. He ripped through the defence, took the ball wide and smashed in his 2nd of the game to make it 3-1! Archie was unlucky not too have added another. Lewis P played a fantastic ball, Archie collected but his shot went agonizingly wide. Then Lewis P almost scored a carbon copy of his 2nd but the ball smashed against the post. Bov managed to pluck up a bit of courage and attack for the last 3 or 4 mins and they got a 2nd to make it 3-2. They very nearly got an equalizer with a long range effort but Adam was on hand to pull off a cracking reflex save, pushing the ball over the bar. There was a horrible goal mouth scramble that seemed to last 20mins which was finally cleared by Lewis C. The ref blew the whistle to cheers from the Evergreen players and parents.
A brilliant game. I was very proud of Archie when he scored to make it 2-1. His goal didn’t turn the game, as it was already us that had had the most of the possession, but it did do the boys justice. They all put in 200% effort and it clearly paid off. There were moments in the game where Bov could have taken advantgage, but we put in some crunching tackles and never gave up the chase for more goals. Evergreen Juniors have turned giant killers!
Next weekend we face Comets Cougars, away, in a match to decide 1st and 2nd place in the Intermediate League cup group

League: Berkhamstead Raiders Blue 0-0 Evergreen Juniors (29th Nov 2009)
Archie started the game in left midfield. He and the rest of the team started well and were stringing along some lovely one-two's but as the game went on, the passes dwindled a bit. Players were either holding onto the ball for too long and passing late or shooting from range. We hit the bar in the first 5mins and then hit the bar again with 5mins to go. Archie was subbed after 10mins of the second half but came back on with 5mins left on the clock. Louis K in goal made a couple of crucial saves, one towards the end of the game which looked to be a certain goal.
Not much else to report on apart from after the game Archie claimed he'd been got by frost bite!!!
GOALS: N/A
Next week we have a home league fixture against Tornado JSC Black.

Preview to Sundays game (29th Nov 2009)
The first reason: Back in 2007, Archie scored his first ever goal against Berko when he played for Herons in the Under 8s. He hasn't played there since then.
The second reason: Archie scored his first goal this season for Evergreen Juniors against Berko. That goal gave Evergreen their 1st win of the season. He will be looking to put some more in his account on Sunday!
Game on.

League: Evergreen Juniors 3-1 London Maccabi Lions (22nd Nov 2009)
The game started at a fast pace and goals could have been scored at either end but it was Archie who opened the scoring. He ran onto a long pass on the right hand side of the field, manged to shrug off the LML defender and placed the ball home with his left foot. Good goal. His celebration was a bit risky, an Arshavin style shaking of the head and a Robbie Keane style forward roll left the parents worried that he'd do himself an injury! The boys kept pressing forward and came close on a couple of occasions as did LML, forcing a few good saves from Louis K in goal. What we needed was another goal and another goal was what we got courtesy of Archie again. It was pretty much a carbon copy of his first but this time hit the ball with his right foot... his celebration again featured the forward roll, to worried gasps from the parents! LML took kick off and got a goal back, and attacked for the rest of the half. The half time whistle couldn't have come soon enough.
The second half was a tense affair, LML got a bit of a talking to during half time and our boys were told to carry on the way they were. Archie was subbed with 10mins to go and came back on with about 2mins left on the clock. While Archie was off the field Adam scored Evergreens 3rd (and much needed) goal. By that time the frustration was showing from the opposition coaches and parents... they don't expect to lose games.
When the final whistle was blown the boys showed the kind of enthusiasm from when they beat Comets 4-0.
On the Evergreen website. Archie was awarded 'Player of the Match'.
GOALS: Archie (2), Adam (1)
That's 2 wins on the trot. Next weekends fixture is away at Berkhamstead Raiders Blue.

League Intermediate Cup, game 3: Evergreen Juniors 4-0 Comets Cougars (8th Nov 2009)
Archie started the game as the lone striker with Lewis P on the right, Harry F in the middle and Adam on the left. Harry C and James were playing at the back and Louis K was back in goal.
The first half was a very tight one. It could really have gone either way but Evergreen did have more chances. Archie spent the half putting untold pressure on the defence and was denied a long range effort by a well timed tackle. Lewis P and Harry F had a few digs at goal too but nothing came of them. James and Harry C were kept busy at the back and Louis made a couple of good saves. There was a great opportunity for us to open the scoring when Archie broke through the midfield and defence and crossed to Harry F who's shot only just went wide.
The boys were given an extra push at half-time and told not to give up. I made a comment to Archie's Grandad who was watching that if we ended up losing this game as well, it just isn't meant to be! For the second half Archie was moved to left midfield and Harry F was played upfront, although Archie, Lewis P, Adam & Harry F were attacking all half. Arch played a blinder in the second half and created 2 of Harry F's goals. The first was a flick on from a goal kick and the second was pass through the defence. Lewis P bagged himself a goal, dinking his way through midfielders and defenders and smashing home, and Harry F got a third. It was a shame that Archie couldn't get on the score sheet but like i said before he played a blinder and was instrumental... in fact, the whole team was awesome. Louis K in goal kept a clean sheet, James & Harry C kept Comets away from goal for the most part and the midfield and strike force showed just how potent they can be.
GOALS: Harry F (3), Lewis P (1)
This wins means that we have qualified for the next round of the League Intermediate Cup but have to play-off against Comets to decide on who comes 1st and who comes 2nd (goal difference doesn't count).
Next weekend Archie and Evergreen Juniors face Tornado JSC Black in a league game. Hopefully the boys will be itching to get on the pitch and carry on with their winning ways.

League: Chorleywood Tigers 4-1 Evergreen Juniors (1st Nov 2009)
Archie was looking forward to playing football again. Its had been 3 weeks ago that he last played and was itching to get his kit on from the moment he woke up. He was also excited because we had a new player, Harry F playing his debut. We got to Chorleywood and Archie was told that he was playing Left Midfield. The line-up looked pretty tasty but we were missing our goalie Louis K and also defender James. Adam took the place of goalkeeper, Louis C & Harry C were defence, Archie was left midfield with Khalil on the right, Harry F in the centre and Lewis P upfront.
We started the game very well but it was obvious from pretty much the start that the ref wasn't up to the job and seemed to be particularly in favour of the home team. He awarded a handball against Lewis P, a player who is more than capable of controlling the ball with his chest rather than plucking it out of the sky with his arm/hand... Chorleywood must play different rules! He also missed a blatant foul throw from the home team and a couple of crunching tackles against our boys. Archie was hacked down on the edge of the area. I ran on to the pitch to see if Archie was OK and Archie was telling the ref that he was fouled, his answer back was 'He didn't do it on purpose though, it was an accident'. What a joke. We conceded 2 goals in the first half but came out in the second and attacked. We finally got a goal back. Harry F on his debut scoring from his own half! It was a cracking goal with the ball looping over one of the Chorleywood spectators... i mean the goalie. We carried on attacking the game. Lewis P will have a sore throat this week as he was constantly screaming for the ball but never really got the service either because the ball very heavy on the wet muddy ground or other reasons. Archie had a ferocious volley parried by the keeper for a corner. Chorleywood then decided to attack and we kept getting caught at the back. Archie made some fantastic runs and defensive tackles, covering missing defenders. It was at this point that the referee, sensing that we were gunning for an equalizer, ruined a very good game of football for self gain. He decided to award a very harsh penalty against Archie. The ball was rolling away from the Chorleywood attacker who had taken a very heavy touch, Archie slid in from the side. He did get the player but by that point the ball was rolling away from goal and going off for a goal kick. I was furious at the decision and Archie was devastated. It turned the whole game, they scored from the penalty and then scored again although our boys said that the 4th shouldn't have counted as it went through the side netting!
GOALS: Harry F (1)
It was one of those games!
We have our 3rd League intermediate cup game next Sunday vs Comets Cougars. That will be a tough one.

Preview to Sundays game (1st Nov 2009)
We have played Chorleywood Tigers twice this season and lost both times 2-1. The last time we played and hammered them the whole game but conceded 2 silly goals. No doubt the boy's will want to get a victory over Chorleywood. I'll be drumming up the support on the sidelines and hopefully Archie can bag a few goals along with Lewis P, Harry C or any other Evergreen players that fancy their chances.

League Intermediate Cup, game 2: Chorleywood Tigers 2-1 Evergreen Juniors (11th Oct 2009)
We conceded a very soft goal within the first 5 minutes. We dominated the rest of the first half and really should of taken advantage of a hand full of opportunities. In true battle style, Archie was everywhere and had a few chances to get an equalizer. One shot looked certain to go in, so much so that Harry's Dad shouted 'Goal!', at that point the keeper saved it. Archie also had a shot from the edge of the area that beat the goalkeeper and brushed against the wrong end of the goal post. The rest of the team had other chances, Harry almost broke one of the Chorleywood Tigers defenders' ribs with one of his rocket like shots.
The second half was much the same although Chorleywood did have a little bit more of the game. Archie had a few efforts that either went over or wide and at one point the ball did roll along an open goal mouth before being cleared. Another soft goal was conceded to make it 2-0.
We attacked the game after we went down and a brilliant goal was headed in by Lewis P from one of Harry's out swinging corners. The Chorleywood manager almost wet himself at the sight of such a sweet header.
I still believe that we can beat Chorleywood Tigers, we should really have beaten them today but it wasn't to be.
GOALS: Lewis P (1)
Archie and Evergreen have got a 2 week break from games and our next match is actually against Chorleywood tigers in the league at there's on 1st November. Maybe we can get a result...
Saturday training (10th Oct 2009)
There was a slight incident in training when Harry blasted a long range shot which was well saved by Louis in goal... he almost broke his fingers!! Archie nearly broke the goalkeeper coach Ian's hand shortly after!!
The boy's are looking forward to tomorrows game.

Preview to Sundays game (11th Oct 2009)
We will be hoping to build on last weeks victory. Chorleywood Tigers beat us on the 2nd game of the season 2-1 so we will be carrying on with our revenge mission on the 3 teams that beat us at the beginning of the season. 1 down (Berko), 2 to go...
Game on!

League Intermediate Cup, game 1: Evergreen Juniors 2-1 Berkhampstead Raiders Blue (4th Oct 2009)
The boy's were given a tough team talk before the game. They were told to put there all in and put what they have been doing in training into practice. We started the game with an attack on Berko's goal and Archie should really have put us 1-0 up but was too quick to shoot when he actually had time to control the ball and run at the keeper. Lewis P, Harry and James had a few shoots on target but all in all the 1st half was pretty poor and we went in at half time 1-0 down. I think i made a comment to the tone of 'come on, this is like watching Watford!', shame on me.
The second half of the game was one with lot's of 'Oohs' and 'Arrghhs'. All the parents on the sidelines (and the coaches) were egging the boy's on and we started to put pressure on their defence, they started making mistakes. We worked really hard and finally we got our equalizer, scored by Lewis P, Evergreen Juniors' top scorer last season.
Last season when I was coaching Herons, we played Evergreen 3 times and they beat us each time. Lewis P was one of the Evergreen players that gave me nightmares, he was everywhere and scored pretty much most of Evergreens goals against us.
The last 3 games that I've watched Archie and Evergreen play, Lewis P hasn't really figured as much as he did last season but today he was on form. He set Archie up with 3 great chances to score, each time Archie missed very narrowly. I was beginning to wander if we were going to get a winner after our constant battering or if we would give away another easy goal. We did eventually get what we deserved. Harry was fighting for the ball in midfield and showed real courage putting his foot in to nick the ball from one of the Berko defenders. He put the ball into the box, there was a bit of a goal mouth scramble but Archie was in the right place at the right time to put the ball into the back of the net. You could see how much it meant to the team, everyone ran up to him and congratulated him. Archie was happy as Larry! We were unlucky not to make it 3 as Lewis P connected with a fine header from an equally fine corner taken by Harry, but the ball glanced over the bar.
GOALS: Lewis P (1), Archie (1)
The whole team really showed determination to get the win and I for one am looking forward to see what happens next week against Chorleywood Tigers in the next League Intermediate Cup game.
Saturday, 3 October 2009
Saturday training (3rd Oct 2009)
Lots of practice on improving strength, two-touch football, keeping the ball on the ground, passing and being first to the ball.
The boy's finished with a 20 minute training match ending in a 1-1 draw. Archie and Lewis the scorers.
They got a stern talking to with regards to tomorrows game. Its one that they should win if they battle like they did in the 1st half of last weeks game.

Preview to Sundays game (4th Oct 2009)
We have been drawn in a group with Berkhamstead Raiders Blue, Chorleywood Tigers & Comets Cougars.
These are the 3 teams that we have already played against in the league and narrowly lost each game so revenge is on the cards starting this Sunday vs Berkhamstead Raiders Blue.
There is a possibility of meeting Archie's old team Herons in the knock out stages. Bring it on

County Cup, round 1: Hemel Stags Aces Black 3-1 Evergreen Juniors (27th Sept 2009)
The Aces manager recognised Archie just before kick off... 'Your Marks boy aren't ya!?!, you're pretty good!'.
Archie started and finished the game playing left midfield/left wing and dealt with his duties well for the most part trying to deal with Aces' big number 10 and also had a few tussles with their Captain. The score was a little harsh on the boys but could have been worse if it wasn't for our keeper. There were few chances for either team in the first half and we went in at half time 0-0.
We started the 2nd half well with Lewis P managing to have a shot on target but the keeper was able to deal with it. The game kind of slipped away from there and after Aces went 2-0 up then 3-0, the boys let there go down a little. They still attacked the Aces goal and Archie managed to break his duck, scoring the Evergreen goal with a left foot volley from Harry's "Delap" like throw in. The Aces keeper had already tipped one Archie's volleys over the bar earlier on.
We have another cup game next week vs Berkhampstead Raiders Blue who beat us 2-0 last week. This time it is the League Intermediate Cup.
Archie is now joint top scorer alongside Harry, both with 1 goal. Hopefully Arch and the team can get back to scoring ways, I'm sure there are a lot of goals in the team...

Saturday training (26th Sept 2009)
They ended the training session with a match. Both the Juniors and the Colts were mixed. Archie & Lewis P forming the attacking part of one team and Harry C and Adam W the defence of the other.
Archie and Lewis linked up really well during the training game but no goals were scored.
The team are looking forward to tomorrows game and it looks as though Archie will be playing left wing as he impressed in that position today.
Team photo tomorrow too so picture will be posted soon.

Preview to Sundays game (27th Sept 2009)
Not taking anything away from the team that Archie played for last season, i think that his new team, Evergreen Juniors will be able to get a result.
We haven't won a game yet this season but I think this is due to the fact that the team is yet to gel properly.
Watch this space.
